Kodak T‑MAX 400: The One I Come Back To

Shot on 35mm • Pushed to 1600

WHY IT’S MY FAVOURITE

Sharpness, contrast and grain that knows when to step back. T‑MAX 400 gives me the depth I love in black and white, with rich blacks and room for detail in the shadows.

It has that feeling of another time, while keeping the small things beautifully clear.

PEOPLE, CARS & NATURAL LIGHT

I use it mostly for portraits in natural light and cars, especially outdoors in strong sun. I also love the directness of firing a compact camera’s flash in daylight.

I shoot it in both 35mm and medium format. In 35mm, I love its texture. In medium format, it makes me dream.

AT 400 — OR PUSHED FURTHER

I usually expose it at 400. I’ve also tried it at 1600 with push processing: much stronger contrast and a harder, more intense result. I’d happily do it again.

ROOM TO WORK

My TIFF scans from Speed Photo Bovisa give me a great starting point. When I want to shape the light a little further, I use local masks, and the files respond beautifully.

So far, this film hasn’t let me down. It’s the one I keep loading when I want photographs that already feel worth finding years later.

Like the results? Speed Photo Bovisa in Milan is where I scan my film — and buy my next rolls.

Like photographs found in a drawer beneath a stack of ’80s sports magazines.
